Shahien Nasiripour's excellent Huffington Post: "Too Busy for Obama, Bank CEO's Make Time To 'Educate' Hill Staffers" was a revelation. We now know that like "Slugworth" in "Willy Wonka" "Mega-Bank" CEO's and Lobbyists are now schmoozing or rather "educating" young Congressional staffers in hopes of influencing and shaping both current and future reform.
Just how many "Everlasting-Gobstoppers" will Goldman be able to buy?
America...how many of these young, impressionable "many just out of college" Congressional staffers will be swayed by implicit promises of future wealth beyond their wildest dreams? How many will be strong enough to honestly resist the seductive charms of some of the most powerful men in the world....as they tell them of their own "real-fantasy" lives of private jets, mansions and movie stars? How many will then be able to retain their selfless idealism in going back to their Congressional offices only to heed the advice of some "sucker" of an old frumpy lifetime staffer who tells them that if they "really" work hard they could end up like him some day.....This as he hops into his "10 year old Camry" to drive two hours home to his modest little Virginia condo......just in time to feed his cats and catch "Olbermann."
America, let's hope that we have far more young "Charlies" than "Verucas" on "The Hill".....Because "the world is weary" and we still need many "shining good deeds" from these young future leaders. Let's hope that, like "Charlie," there will still be a few who will choose to put the candy back on the desk.
